The expensive mistakes in a kitchen are decided at the estimate, not on site: the wrong scope, cabinets that get replaced when they could have been kept, and a price that grows once the wall is open.

Old wiring and leaks under the sink are common. They are priced as separate items with photos and your written approval, paid from a contingency you see on day one.

Kitchen questions
What people ask before choosing a kitchen service.
Should I remodel the whole kitchen or just replace the counters?
Replace only the counters if the cabinets are solid, square and laid out the way you like; a countertop project takes one to two weeks. If the cabinets are swollen, sagging or in the wrong place, new counters on old boxes is money you will spend twice.
Can I reface cabinets instead of replacing them?
Yes, when the boxes are plywood or solid wood and still square. Refacing costs roughly forty percent of new cabinets and takes about a week of work in the kitchen. Particleboard boxes that have swollen from leaks cannot be refaced.
Which kitchen service takes the least time?
A countertop replacement, usually one to two weeks from template to install, with the sink out of service for a day or two. Refacing takes one to two weeks. A full remodel takes five to seven weeks and a layout change eight to eleven.
Do you design the kitchen or do I need a designer?
Design is part of the estimate step. A designer measures, draws the layout, helps you choose cabinets, counters and tile, and shows how each choice changes the price before anything is ordered.
Can you build an outdoor kitchen at the same time?
Yes. An outdoor kitchen is priced as its own line with its own permit, and the crew schedules it so the indoor kitchen is never waiting on it.
Is kitchen work priced the same in every state?
No. Labor and permit costs vary by state, so the ranges on these pages are typical, not local. Your written estimate is priced for your address after the visit.
