Sent. The posts are 4x4 and the house roof comes down right above the door.
Thanks. Those 4x4 posts will need to become 6x6 on real footings to hold a roof, which is normal. With that eave height, a gable tied into the house roof works well. I can come Tuesday at 5 and send three prices Wednesday. Good?

How long it takes
Roofing and screening a deck takes three to five weeks, with the house sealed every night.
Screening a covered porch takes one to two weeks, a new porch five to seven. The house wall is opened only where the roof ties in, and it is covered and watertight at the end of every day.

Can you screen in an existing deck?

How do you keep bugs from coming through the deck floor?
Insects come up through the gaps between deck boards. We staple screen mesh to the underside of the joists or build a solid floor. Either way, the floor gets sealed at the edges so the room is closed on all six sides.
What is the best screen for a porch?
Standard fiberglass mesh works for most mosquitoes and flies. Choose no-see-um mesh where tiny gnats are a problem, pet-resistant mesh on lower panels if you have dogs or cats, and solar screen on the sunniest side to cut heat and glare.
Does a screened porch need a permit?
Yes, whenever you add a roof, since that is a structural change to the house. Screening a porch that already has a roof sometimes does not, depending on the town. We check the local rule and file whatever is needed.
How long do porch screens last?
Fiberglass mesh typically lasts 10 to 15 years before it gets brittle, less in hot sun. With a track system, a single panel is replaced in minutes without rebuilding a frame, so one torn screen never means redoing the porch.
Can a screened porch be used in winter?
Not comfortably with screens alone. Sliding vinyl panels can extend the season into spring and fall. For year-round use you need glass, insulation and heat, which makes it a sunroom addition with a different permit and price.
Should the roof be a gable or a shed roof?
A shed roof is simpler and costs less, and it works when the house wall has room above the door. A gable adds height and a brighter, open ceiling. The height of your house eave usually decides, and we sketch both at the visit.
