Hi Mark, Jake here with ProBuild Remodeling. If it overflows when clean, the gutter or the downspout is usually too small for that part of the roof. Can you send a photo of that corner and where the downspout lets out?

How long it takes
Most houses get new gutters in one day, two if fascia needs replacing.
Scheduling is usually one to two weeks out. Gutters are formed from a coil in our truck on the day, cut to each run of your house, so there is no waiting for parts once the date is set.

What your gutters are made of
Thickness, size and hangers are named in the estimate, because that is what sags or lasts.
Two gutter quotes can both say aluminum and differ a lot. Ours lists the metal thickness, gutter size, hanger type and guard product, so you can compare it with any other quote.
Aluminum K-style gutters
Formed on site from .027 or heavier .032 inch aluminum coil in dozens of baked colors. They do not rust and last 20 years or more.
Oversized downspouts
3x4 inch downspouts move roughly twice the water of standard 2x3 and clog less. We use them on steep roofs and near big trees.
Hidden hangers
Screwed through the gutter into the rafter tails every 24 inches, they hold snow and ladders far better than old spikes do.
Micro-mesh guards
Stainless steel mesh on an aluminum frame, like Gutterglove, lets water in and keeps leaves, needles and shingle grit out.
Fascia boards
Rotted fascia replaced with primed wood or PVC trim from brands like AZEK, then wrapped in aluminum to match the gutters.

Gutter installation is the removal of old gutters and the fitting of new seamless gutters, downspouts and fittings along the roof edge, sized and sloped to carry rainwater from the roof to a safe spot away from the foundation. ProBuild Remodeling installs aluminum K-style, half-round and copper gutters, formed on site in one piece per run.
The service covers removal and disposal of old gutters, fascia inspection and replacement, gutter apron, new gutters on hidden hangers, downspouts, extensions or underground drains, and gutter guards when chosen. It does not include roof repairs, grading the yard, basement waterproofing or gutter cleaning visits, which are quoted separately if needed.
It is for homeowners whose gutters leak, sag, overflow or are missing, those with water near the foundation, and families tired of cleaning gutters on a ladder. It is not for a single leaking joint on otherwise good gutters, which a small repair fixes, and it is not a substitute for waterproofing a basement that already leaks through the floor.
The words you will see on your gutter estimate
- K-style gutter
- The most common gutter shape, with a flat back and a front that looks like crown molding. Holds more water than half-round.
- Half-round gutter
- A gutter shaped like a half pipe, common on older and historic houses. Usually paired with round downspouts.
- One-piece gutter
- A gutter rolled from coil to the exact length of each run on site, so it has no joints along the way to leak.
- Hidden hanger
- A bracket inside the gutter screwed into the rafter tail. It replaces the spikes that work loose and let gutters sag.
- Fascia
- The board along the roof edge that the gutter hangs on. Rot here is common behind gutters that have overflowed for years.
- Gutter apron
- A bent metal flashing under the first row of shingles that directs water into the gutter instead of behind it.
- Downspout extension
- A section of pipe or a buried drain line that carries water at least four feet from the foundation before releasing it.
- Micro-mesh guard
- A fine stainless screen over the gutter that lets rain through and keeps out leaves, pine needles and shingle grit.

How much does gutter installation cost?
Aluminum gutters cost about $9 to $16 per foot installed with downspouts, so $1,200 to $3,000 for most houses. Adding micro-mesh guards and fascia repair usually brings it to $3,000 to $6,500. Copper runs $25 to $45 per foot or more.
What size gutters do I need, 5-inch or 6-inch?
Five-inch gutters handle most houses. Six-inch gutters carry about 40 percent more water and suit steep roofs, large roof areas draining to one run, and places with heavy downpours. We size each run to the roof area and pitch above it.
Are gutters formed on site better than sectional gutters?
Yes, for most homes. A gutter rolled to the full length of the run has joints only at corners and outlets, so it leaks far less than store-bought sections joined every 10 feet. It also looks cleaner and can be made in more colors.
Are gutter guards worth it?
If trees hang over your roof or the house is two stories or more, usually yes. Micro-mesh guards keep out leaves and needles and cut cleaning to a quick rinse every year or two. With no trees nearby, the money is better spent elsewhere.
How many downspouts does a house need?
As a rule, one downspout for every 30 to 40 feet of gutter, and at least one at each end of long runs. Steep or large roofs need more, or oversized 3x4 inch downspouts. Too few downspouts is a common cause of overflow.
Should gutters be replaced when I replace my roof?
It is a good time if the gutters are old, because the new drip edge and gutter apron go in at the same moment. Sound gutters can be taken down and rehung, which costs less than new. We price both options in the estimate.
How long do aluminum gutters last?
Twenty to thirty years with hidden hangers and a correct slope. Copper can last 50 years or more. Gutters fail early when they sag, hold standing water or are pulled down by ice, which is why hangers and slope matter as much as the metal.
How far should downspouts carry water from the house?
At least four feet, and farther where the yard slopes toward the house. Extensions, splash blocks or a buried drain line keep water away from the foundation and out of the basement.
